“Creation continues unceasingly through the media of man. But man does not create, he discovers.”  – Antoni Gaudí

Begin your excursion with a brief drive to the Sagrada Familia. Construction of the Sagrada Familia, or Church of the Holy Family, began in 1882 and remained incomplete at Gaudí’s death in 1926. Work continues on the structure, but without any sure idea of what Gaudí intended. Join your guide for a walk inside the church as Gaudí’s creative, although controversial, genius is discussed.

Before returning to the pier, pass through the Passeig de Gracia, the widest avenue in town lined with a selection of modernist homes designed by Gaudí like the Casa Milà, better known as “La Pedrera House” and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stop for a leisurely walk and explanation at the “block of dissension,” so called for the area’s various architectural styles, for a glimpse of Casa Batlló on the outside.

All too soon, it will be time to leave the surreal world of Antoni Gaudí and return to your Crystal ship.

Important Notes: We are pleased to offer this excursion on March 16, 2022 to our in-transit guests sailing on OCY220304-12 and OCY220316-10, as well as June 30, 2022 to our in-transit guests sailing on OCS220623-07 and OCS220630-07. As this excursion involves approximately two hours of walking, it is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. All guests who visit the Sagrada Familia must dress conservatively; ladies must cover their knees and shoulders, while gentlemen must wear pants. As the Sagrada Familia is a work in progress, it is not uncommon to see workers operating cranes and setting up scaffolding. Local regulations require motor coaches to remain in designated holding areas, therefore guests will be required to walk approximately 15 minutes to reach the Sagrada Familia. The order of sights visited may vary. See information concerning special cancellation conditions below. This Crystal Destination Discoveries excursion must be pre-reserved.
