From the pier, travel through upscale bedroom communities to Cambridge for your look at Harvard University’s hallowed buildings, elegant statuary and green lawns. Meanwhile, your knowledgeable guide will offer insights into the history of the venerated institution.

Continuing on, pause at the Georgian-style mansion of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and then view wealthy Tory Row and lovely Mount Auburn, the first garden-style cemetery in the country.

Arriving in Lexington, follow your guide by foot across Lexington Green, the very place where Minutemen dared to face British troops on April 19, 1775. Learn the story of the heroic men as you stand on the Green, surrounded by authentic pre-Revolution homes. After examining the plaques and monuments, proceed to the Visitors’ Center for a viewing of the detailed diorama depicting the historic skirmish.

Rejoining your motor coach, travel through the literary territory of the renowned authors of the 19th century, including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau. You will venture along Authors’ Row and pause at a few of the writers’ homes.

In rural Concord, stop at the Park Service Center, where you will survey its historic models and artifacts before taking a stroll to the wooden North Bridge. Spanning the serene Concord River, the bridge is where the “shot heard around the world” was fired by the embattled farmer, depicted in the Minuteman Statue overlooking the scene.

With a new appreciation for New England’s vibrant history, return to your Crystal ship.
